Twilight Cemetery Tours

Dead men don’t tell tales, but their tombstones do! Historic St. Luke’s Church has been the site of burials since the 1600’s. Enjoy the stories of local saints and sinners on a guided tour through the Ancient Cemetery. We have two dates for cemetery tours this Halloween season: an Adults Only tour on October 18, and a family-friendly tour on October 19. Learn about local lore and ancient curses through a historical lens, and separate fact from fiction.

(Please note that the nature of these events means that the Twilight Tours are not ADA compliant and we may not be able to accommodate special needs.)

About St. Luke’s:

St. Luke’s Historic Church & Museum is home to Virginia’s Oldest open cemetery. With the oldest marked grave dated 1767 and numerous unmarked graves nestled by the ancient church building, St. Luke’s cemeteries began as a church graveyard after the church was built in the late 17th Century. Memorial stones surround the building to adorn the existing landscape of the sacred grounds. Today, the hallowed grounds give witness to lives and memories of generations past. All are welcome to tour our grounds, walk the serene landscape, and enjoy the peaceful natural environment. Many come to visit loved ones and ancestors. The carefully maintained cemetery is a testament to our pledge of perpetual care–that we will always care for this place. Our rich history spans four centuries. Yet, our history is not complete. We may be Virginia’s Oldest Cemetery, but there remains room for you to “Become Part of History”.
