Todd Talk (April 2016)

Todd Ballance, Executive Director.

Todd Ballance, Executive Director.

As the seasons changed and snow gave way to pollen as Mother Nature’s preferred ground cover, the landscapers at HSL have been busy maintaining the ancient cemeteries and preparing for Annual Historic Garden Week April 23rd through 30th, 2016, the education team continues our 2016 Educational Programming Series and Events, and marketing keeps sharing who we are throughout Hampton Roads.
Join us Saturday, April 30th, 2016 – Volunteer Orientation Day between 10:30 a.m. & 1 p.m. to learn of how you may join our team!  A volunteer may help with archival research and preservation, collections maintenance, eNewsletter creation, history article guest blogger, tour guide & museum interpreter, educational and private event assistance, gardening, community relations, marketing, historical reenactments, and even volunteer coordination.
What Does HSL mean to you?
Our museum interpreter Rachel Popp (Former) is taking your stories and memories about your experiences at Virginia’s Oldest Church so we may share with our followers through social media and maintain a collection for our future use.  We certainly don’t want to lose our history before it’s too late!  At the same time we are collecting your thoughts about the great and not so great perceptions about HSL.  What are we doing great and what could we improve on?  Your thoughts and input are very valuable to us.  We hope to hear from you soon.
SAVE THE DATE: Be sure and attend Saturday, May 14th, 2016 Restoration Day at HSL.  The day’s events will commemorate the completion of the 1957 church building restoration.  Children’s activities, a brick-making demonstration, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony showcasing the recently-completed Grounds Restoration Project are planned for the day.  Stay tuned for more information including the day’s schedule on our Facebook page and our official web site.
